Happy Friday the 13th Folks! I hope everyone is having a good day. Here are today's updates:
Broadview North Construction:
- The contractor has started or will be about to start digging up the actual road. Flatbed trucks containing all of the new rails have been moved into this section and will remain parked in this section until it is time to off-load the rails. Unfortunately in today's construction meeting the TTC couldn't confirm if the work is running on schedule or not. To say the least I wasn't pleased and have asked for proper updates moving forward.
- We had some problems with the garbage receptacles that are located on the sidewalks being emptied by the City this week. I've gotten them emptied and these receptacles will be wrapped/closed for the duration of the construction.
- There have been some issues with the increased traffic heading north off of Danforth onto Ellerbeck and up to Pretoria. 55 Division has officers posted to ensure that the speeding issues are dealt with and these issues don't continue.
- I'm working with the City team on a clean-up plan. We need to get some power washing down in our section - our BIA planters and the lower sections of some of our business members' buildings. I will update you with a schedule for this once confirmed.
- Line painting still needs to take place and will do so over the next couple of weeks.
- Due to the Broadview North construction we do not have any bus or streetcars running on Broadview but the TTC is looking at a plan to put in a temporary bus route for Broadview south! Buses would come from Castle Frank station along the bridge and then turn south on Broadview at Danforth and this route would be reversed for northbound buses on Broadview. I should be able to confirm the start date of this temporary route next week.
- I found out at today's meeting that Phase 2 of the Broadview sewer rehabilitation work is bigger than anticipated.
- This sewer work is tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, Nov. 20/23 (IF the TTC construction is running on time) and run through to February 2024 and will span Broadview from Pretoria down to Gerrard.
- Work will be scheduled in sections and take place from approximately 8pm to 7am each night. The only good news is that it is trenchless work - meaning the City won't be digging up all of the road that has just been freshly paved. It does mean that there will be no streetcar service on Broadview - there will be buses; there will be lane restrictions each night; and there will be water restrictions for businesses and residents on Broadview. You will have water but you won't be able to drain/flush any water during the evening hours. I will hopefully have a better idea of the start date for this work by next Friday's update.
- A quick reminder that the City will be working in our section of the Danforth this coming Tuesday, Oct. 17th to remove the CafeTO lane set-ups and return us back to our winter set-up for bike lanes and on-street parking.
- Some of you have been reaching out to me asking about holiday events, promotions etc. We're working on the plans and I will provide further information as soon as I have things confirmed. Please stay tuned!
That's all I have for today. As always please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Susan
