Good Afternoon BIA Members,
We just received notice today that Woodgreen will be starting their construction this Monday, Nov. 18/24. As you know, this is the demolition of the church located on the south/west corner of Danforth and Bowden and the construction of a new seniors' residence.
This project has been delayed several times and getting the notice that work is starting this Monday is very tight. I do not have Woodgreen's traffic and parking plans for the affected area - I have asked that they supply them asap. There will be impacts to parking and traffic flow and I know that our members located on the south side of Danforth running west from Bowden access the back laneway for parking and deliveries; as do our members located on the south side running east of Bowden - you access the back laneway from the east side of Bowden.
Here is the information that I did receive today from Woodgreen:
- Timeline: Demolition is scheduled to begin as early as Monday, November 18, 2024, with initial steps such as site fencing and safety measures. Construction of the new seniors’ homes will follow, with completion anticipated within 12 to 18 months. The entire project is expected to be completed by late 2025/early 2026. Once construction is near competition in 2025, information about applying for a unit will become available.
- Impact to neighbours: The demolition phase will involve some noise and additional activity around the site, typical for any construction project. The construction teams will be on-site on weekdays only between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in accordance with local regulations. There will be construction work on occasional Saturdays, however, work will not start before 9:00 am in these instances. Traffic near the site may be occasionally slowed due to construction vehicles entering and exiting. We are committed to mitigating disruptions as much as possible.
As I receive more information I will keep you all updated. As always, any questions please email me.
Thanks,
Susan
