Good Morning All!
Well Summer 2011 has finally arrived and our Danforth BIA will be ready to attract local consumers and tourists alike. The following is a list of key events that will be taking place in our area:
Saturday, June 25
Toronto City Chase
For the first time the Danforth BIA was invited to participate in this city-wide event. Tomorrow 600 competitors will take to the streets of Toronto with clues in hand to try a find the corresponding locations. I would like to thank Fermentations and Small Wonders for agreeing to serve as competition locations. So tomorrow if you see City Chase competitors in our area looking for the answers to the Danforth clue locations please lend them a hand and direct them to Fermentations and Small Wonders!
Saturday, July 23
2nd Annual Thrill of the Grill
Following the great success of last year's Thrill of the Grill event, we are bringing it back! Once again Danforth BIA chefs will compete to see whose slider burger is the consumers' favourite. I would like to thank the following BIA members for signing up for this tasty and fun competition: Globe Bistro, Embrujo Flamenco, Factory Girl, The Combine Eatery, The Friendly Butcher, The Big Carrot.
Thrill of the Grill will take place on Jackman Avenue between Danforth and Hurndale - Jackman will be closed to traffic. The event will run from noon to 3pm. Last year we had 500 consumers attend the event so we are hoping to match that number or exceed it this year. We will be charging $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per child 10 or under to sample all of the sliders. Proceeds from this event will be donated to our local charity: The Broadview Community Youth Group.
Because we host so many people in a short time period, our area is busy during this event. As such, I would like to invite all of our Danforth BIA members to consider putting together a special flyer or voucher promoting your business. Each consumer that comes to Thrill of the Grill will be given a Danforth "treat" bag containing your promotions. You can do anything that you like with your promotions - offer a percentage off purchases or a free gift with purchase - whatever you feel would be best for your business. We ask that you print up your own copies and I will be happy to pick them up from your business when they are ready. I recommend doing 500 copies but again, it is up to you to decide. If you need a great place to make your copies please consider our member business UPS - they are terrific at providing design and printing. Please let me know via e-mail if you are planning on submitting something for this part of the event. I will need to have your promotional copies on or before Tuesday, July 19.
Friday, August 5 - Sunday, August 7
Taste of the Danforth
I've heard from Greektown BIA that participation packages will be delivered to members at the beginning of July. Once you get your package please read through the information carefully and please take note of the deadlines for submission back to Greektown BIA. I will be available to any members who need assistance in filling out their applications etc.
Jennifer Jones, owner of Joy of Dance, is once again donating her skill, talent and time to producing the stage in our area. As we get closer to the Taste I will send out further updates.
Planter Update
Just a quick update on our planter change-overs: this coming Sunday evening and Monday the old cement planters that we aren't currently using will be removed. The City is progressing with the paperwork for the purchase of our new planters and I'm hoping that we will have them installed sometime in July.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this update and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I hope you all have a great weekend filled with shoppers and diners!
Susan
