Friday Updates & New Items

Good Afternoon All,

I have a couple of things for you today as follows:

1. De-escalation Training Sessions for Businesses (Level 1 and Level 2) have now been scheduled through to February, 2022:

The City of Toronto is now offering De-Escalation Training Sessions for Street-Front Retailers.  The sessions are geared to managers or employees who interact with the general public regularly and would like to learn strategies and skills for communicating with individuals who may be street involved or displaying agitated behaviours.  Training is facilitated by the Downtown Yonge BIA and a mental health educator.  Registration is free.

Further information is available through the link below and the attached flyer

2. Broadview Construction Update:

The work to replace the watermain on Broadview continues.  There have unfortunately been delays due to scarcity of materials (due to Covid).  However the main pipe is installed.  We're now waiting on a specific other type of pipe that is needed to complete the connections.  We're hoping it will be delivered next week and installed.  Then the watermain and connections will undergo the flushing process which can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to complete.

I meet with the Construction team and the City every Friday morning to review the status of this project.   Our aim is to have our section of Broadview Avenue complete by the end of November so that the street is free of any work and equipment leading into the holiday season.  The permanent paving and restoration will then take place in the Spring of 2022.
