Good Afternoon BIA Members,
Here's my updates for this week in terms of construction and again I will start at the east end of our BIA and work my way to our west end.
Danforth Hampton to Bowden:
- the Hydro work is complete and the area should be or will be clear shortly
- NEW PROJECT - 60 Bowden Avenue which is the church located on the south west side of Danforth and Bowden. As many of you know, the existing church has been vacant for some time. Woodgreen Community Services now owns the property and a seniors' residence is slated to be built on this site. The former church will have access to space in the common area. Attached is an information notice about this new development and I encourage you to take a few minutes to read through the details. At this time, it is anticipated that construction will begin late summer/early fall of this year. I will provide updates on this schedule as they become available. This project will impact traffic, parking etc. within the area and we will work on all of that to ensure that the businesses in the affected area are able to manage your day-to-day operations.
Danforth Playter to Ellerbeck:
- the crack in the road was repaired last Saturday and the crews were able to return this week to complete the sidewalk and road restoration. This area should be or will be clear shortly.
Danforth Ellerbeck to Broadview:
- the sidewalk restoration on the north and south sides of Danforth in this section is complete, however I'm not pleased with the quality of work in certain segments. I will work on seeing if this can be fixed.
Broadview Construction:
- Sewer restoration work at Broadview and Danforth - the cleaning is complete all the way down to Withrow. However in doing the cleaning the crews found that there were protruding laterals in the sewer. This means that next week - Tues, Weds, Thurs, crews will be on site feeding a robotic cutter into the sewers to cut back the laterals. This work will take place from 7pm to 6am each night. Water service will NOT be disrupted.
- We had hoped to be able to have the new sewer liners installed next week. This has now been pushed back to the following week - week of May 29th. This work will result in water disruptions which will start at 8pm. Businesses and residents in this section will receive notices next week on Thurs., May 25. For the businesses that are open 24 hours in this section by-passes may be installed so you are able to use your water during the overnights.
- In terms of the street car track replacement work we are still on schedule to begin this on July 4th. We've had many meetings this past week with businesses that have 40 foot truck deliveries and for everyone in this section a plan for deliveries and client drop-offs is being worked on. This is an extremely challenging component to this project and I will keep you all in the loop as we progress with some sort of plan.
- TTC loop track upgrades - the plan for the section of Broadview north of the Danforth was promised for today but the TTC does not have it ready and have told me that they hope to have it ready for next Friday.
CafeTO Installations:
- Normally we would be working this week on the summer shift of the bike and parking lanes and the set-up of our curb lane patios and parkettes and trying to have it all done for this long weekend. Unfortunately this isn't happening and at this time I don't have a scheduled date from the City for this work to begin. The summer shift on the Danforth is a package deal which means that the work is done for our BIA and our 2 neighbours: Greektown BIA and The Danny BIA. Transportation won't implement just our BIA. This year each BIA had to submit their street plans into the City by March 7th. We met the deadline but our neighbouring BIAs did not which means that we are all held up now. Your BIA Board and I are pushing the City to speed this up. Our summer BD Beats live music program is scheduled to begin in our CafeTO parkettes on Thursday, June 8th.
Our large BIA black planters:
Just a quick update as some of you have asked what we're doing - you will notice that the large planters on the north side of Danforth have been emptied this week. We are replacing the overgrown cedars in these planters. They had just gotten too big. Fresh soil and new smaller cedars will be going in and the wonderful potato vines that we have each summer will be planted in all of our Danforth and Broadview planters within the next week or so.
Okay that's it for today. As always, any questions or concerns please just send me an email.
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe long weekend.
Susan
