A year ago today...

Today marks one year since all businesses had to close for the first time. It was St. Patrick's Day last year and we were all reeling with the news - every restaurant, retailer, gym, school, personal service, all professional sports games, music venues - everything was completely locked down. I remember that we thought okay this will probably only last for 2 weeks, maybe 3. Well 52 weeks later you, our BIA members, have shown such grit, resilience, creativity and fight during a time filled with stress, fear and uncertainty. You've participated in all of our city-wide surveys on various government funding programs, you've done media interviews, you've fought to reopen, you've learned how to sell on-line, you've started take-out and delivery options, you've held virtual classes, you've written to all levels of government when we needed to push, and some of you opened your business during all of this - it has been 52 weeks like no other.

Our social media manager, Eszter, has created a short video to mark this day - it's posted on our various platforms and appended to this message. We couldn't include everything but it certainly shows the wonderful spirit that is the heart of our Broadview Danforth BIA and all of you.

Let's hope that this time next year we can all gather together and properly celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

The Sunflower Project

In celebration of BD Beats, BIA business member @cobsdanforth (156 Danforth Ave.) will be spearheading ‘The Sunflower Project’ , a fundraiser in support of a Ukrainian family’s recent resettlement in Toronto. Vibrant solar powered sunflowers (the official flower of Ukraine) will be available beginning at noon on June 4 with proceeds going directly to the family. A group of volunteer youth will be selling the sunflowers for a minimum donation of $20 each at the BIA CafeTO parkette located in the curb lane enclosure in front of COBS. The goal is to sell one hundred sunflowers by 3pm. For those unable to attend but wishing to make a donation, please click below
