Good Afternoon BIA Members,
I have two items to bring to your attention this week as follows:
Personal Service Businesses (Salons, Spas etc.) Animal Allowance By-Law:
- I had an inquiry from one of our salon members about the by-law which restricts clients from bringing their pets with them to the salon. In 2018 Ontario passed a by-law which restricts bringing pets into personal service businesses. The exception is service animals.
- Thanks to Max Pacheco in Councillor Fletcher's office for helping me to get this information. Below is the information that Max sent to me as well as the files attached to this email.
- Only service animals are permitted in a personal service setting (PSS). This is a requirement under Ontario Regulation 136/18, Personal Service Settings, Section 9.The Regulation was introduced in 2018 and a letter was mailed to operators informing them of the new Regulation (attached “Sample TPH Letter”). We also have a notice from the province informing operators of the new Regulation (which was mailed with our letter) on our BodySafe website (attached “PSSFlyer”), and a sign that operators can post to inform their clients of this requirement (attached “991b”).
Reporting a Crime:
- One of our BIA members unfortunately had a very substantial and expensive shoplifting crime occur this week. I know that shoplifting has been an on-going issue for many of our members.
- I want to take this opportunity to remind you all to PLEASE make an on-line police report if this happens. Your reports to the police help in my efforts to increase police patrols and response times in our area.
- To make an on-line report you need to go to: www.torontopolice.on.ca/core/
- If it's an emergency please call 911; if it's not an emergency please call 416-808-2222.
