Yesterday, one of our members informed us that she has been contacted by SOCAN regarding the music playing in her stores.
SOCAN has dedicated its efforts in the past months to contacting businesses about the format that they use to provide music.
If any of you receive letters, emails or phone calls you do have to answer and address this issue. Depending on the format with which you provide music in your business, you may or may not need to pay for a SOCAN license.
This member has provided a couple of links - see below - that provide further details. Please note that a SOCAN license is not required if playing regular (non-Internet) AM/FM radio for the public on four or less speakers at your place of business.
