Good Morning All,
Since my update last Friday there has been no further information released on the Emergency Commercial Rent Relief program. We, however, have been working with our 3 government reps: MP Julie Dabrusin, MPP Peter Tabuns, and Councillor Paula Fletcher to see what can be done to improve the current situation with the rent issue. Here's where we're at:
Provincial NDP Leader Andrea Horwath Media Conference:
- Peter Tabuns has been working with his NDP colleagues and NDP leader Andrea Horwath will be holding an on-line media conference this Thursday, May 7 at 10:30am to discuss the current problems with the Rent Relief Program and the need for a temporary eviction moratorium for businesses.
- Peter has asked if 2 to 3 of our BIA business members would be willing to join this media conference to speak about your current rent situations. If you are willing to participate please email me as soon as possible.
Push for revisions to the Rent Relief Plan:
- MP Julie Dabrusin has asked for feedback numbers/stats on the Rent Relief plan which she can take back to Ottawa. As such, our Board Treasurer Philip Kocev (iPro Realty) is working on a second survey specifically related to the Rent Relief program. Once again there will be 2 surveys: one for tenants and one for landlords. We found that the results from our first survey 2 weeks ago provided invaluable information that we were able to share with our 3 levels of government.
- We will circulate this new survey tomorrow. TABIA will also circulate the survey to all Toronto BIAs. The survey will be open to all until Monday, May 11 and then we will collate the answers and have the survey results available for Wednesday, May 13.
