A-Frame Signs on the Danforth: What you need to know

Starting on June 1, 2010, Municipal Licensing and Standards (MLS) will be enforcing the A-Frame permit by-law.

Over the past few months, businesses have received the permit application form.  At this time only street level businesses may apply for an A-Frame permit.  Part of the application form requests a letter of approval from your BIA office.  For those members who have yet to apply for this permit, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will be happy to provide this letter to you.

It is our understanding from MLS that the first few weeks of the enforcement will be a grace period in which merchants who have A-Frame signs will be reminded to apply for the necessary permit.  However, after this first warning any businesses displaying A-Frame signs without permits will have their signs removed, there will be a charge of $200.00 to pick-up the sign from MLS, and a fine will be charged to the business.  If your sign is removed and you do not pay the recovery fee and pick up your sign from MLS, a disposal fee will automatically be charged to your Property tax bill.

It is clear that, without a permit, this can become a very costly process.  So we encourage all of our members to apply for the necessary permit to display an A-Frame sign.
