OMG Folks - finally the news we've been waiting for.... Toronto will be in Stage 2 starting this Wednesday, June 24!!! This means that our hair and nail salons can reopen and our restaurants, bars and cafes with existing patios can reopen with 2 metres between tables. All new businesses opening will have to have their PPE in place and maintain strict social distancing rules. For those opening patios - you can only use your patio space, no inside customers, you will need to take contact information for each group on your patio and keep that information, it is recommended that you take reservations in order to avoid line-ups and if you're busy it is recommended that you limit the amount of time that guests can be on your patios.
For our restaurants and bars that either don't have a patio area or have a very tiny outdoor space we have been working with Councillor Fletcher over the weekend and this morning and she pushed the City's Executive Committee this morning to pass a motion that will allow for the expansion of sidewalk patios (and the creation of sidewalk patios) in advance of the implementation of the Destination Danforth program - which is scheduled for the end of July. We don't want those affected businesses to have to wait another month. City Council will vote on the motion on Monday. We will push for a speedy implementation of extended sidewalk patios. The curb lane patios will be set-up at the end of July with the implementation of the bike lanes.
For those restaurants who want to apply for the CafeTO program but haven't done so yet - you have until this Friday to submit your application.
Welcome to Stage 2 everyone and let's hope for a speedy transition to Stage 3.
