The Danforth Celebrates Spring with Free Bulbs, Gardening Tips and More

THE DANFORTH (April 24, 2012) – Wanted: Good homes for hundreds of Danforth Hyacinth bulbs. The Danforth Business Improvement Area (BIA) is celebrating spring by giving away Hyacinth bulbs at Danforth Blooms, on Saturday May 5, noon to 2:00pm, outdoor courtyard of The Carrot Common.

Danforth Blooms is the latest signature event in the Danforth BIA’s popular Danforth Experience Series. “Our Hyacinths have been in full bloom for weeks and have given our street and customers hours of pleasure,” said Susan Puff, Executive Director of the Danforth BIA. “What better way to celebrate spring, give back to the environment and encourage recycling than to find these beautiful spring bulbs new homes where they can be planted and enjoyed again next spring.”

To make sure they do, Sam Benvie, the quintessential urban plant geek and landscape designer will be on hand to give advice for planting your new bulbs and answer gardening questions at three special Danforth Blooms demonstrations at 12:30, 1:00 and 1:30. If you have specific questions about something in your garden, Sam asks you to bring a photo or clipping.

Representatives from Evergreen Brick Works will be presenting a special gift to those who visit the Danforth Blooms event. Evergreen Brick Works has transferred the abandoned Don Valley Brick Works into a thriving international showcase for urban sustainability and green design.

The Danforth Experience is a series of signature street events held throughout the year to introduce Toronto to the unique tastes, style and services of the Danforth.
