Friday, June 2/23 Updates: Construction, CafeTO/BD Beats, Taste

Good Afternoon All,

It's Friday and here's the scoop on things happening (or not happening) in our Broadview Danforth BIA.

1. Broadview/Danforth Construction:
Sewer Upgrades:
- Crews are still working on installing the new sewer liner - they managed to complete 3 sections this week but we have an extremely long section still to be done and we're hoping to be able to complete this by this time next week.  Businesses affected by this last section (Broadview south of Danforth) - I will send you specific update emails.
TTC Overhead Upgrades, new track delivery & welding:
- Attached is the full information and dates for the start of this work beginning in the next week.  Please take a few minutes to read the information.
Subway Closure: Weekend of Sat. June 11 and Sun. June 12:
- There will be NO subway service for the full weekend of June 10 and June 11 from Broadview to Woodbine Avenues.  Shuttle buses will be running on the Danforth.  We will post this notice on our social media platforms later next week.
Revised Broadview Streetcar Loop Plan:
- Another week and still no updated plan.
Full track replacement:
- We are still on schedule to start this massive component on July 4.

2. CafeTO & BD Beats:
- Honestly I sound like a broken record on this - we still have no progress in terms of curb lane patio and parkette approvals and no installation date.  Your BIA Board and I are fighting and pushing everyone that we can at the City to move the needle on this.  Many of you may have seen the media coverage this week on this whole mess.  Thanks to George, the owner of Factory Girl, for taking some of the media requests.
- The delay with the installation of the patios and parkettes has affected our roll-out of our annual summer BD Beats live music program which most of you know is set up in our CafeTO parkettes.  Our BIA Board has decided to not delay the program and it will launch this coming Thursday, June 8th.  We will have The Toronto Jazz Collective playing in the courtyard of the Carrot Common and we're hoping to have a second band playing in a special location - I will send an announcement about this later next week if it is confirmed!  In the meantime, attached is our BD Beats poster for this year - it is at the printers right now and we'll be coming around as soon as possible to get the posters up in our BIA.
- I would like to thank our BD Beats sponsors for this year - once again we are receiving generous support from some of our BIA members: The Carrot Common, Choice Properties (a division of Loblaws) and Fresh Restaurant.
- A huge thank you to Jane Noonan - Noonan's; and Mandy Goodhandy - Epochal Imp (formerly Mandy's Bistro) for once again serving as the music curators for this program.

3. Taste:
- The event consultant from Greektown BIA will be coming to your businesses in the next few days to drop off your Taste registration packages.  Can you please make sure to let your staff know to put the package somewhere where you will see it if you aren't in your business when the package is delivered.
- If by mid-week next week you haven't received a package and you want one please let me know via email and we will sort it out.

A very sad goodbye.....
Finally it is with great sadness that I need to announce that our BIA member De La Mer will be closing their Danforth location as well as their locations on Bayview and Roncesvalles as of next Sunday, June 11/23.  Some of you may know that David Illiatovitch-Owen, the owner of De La Mer, is battling advanced pancreatic cancer and has made the very painful and difficult decision to close all of his locations in order to spend more time with his family.  De La Mer has been one of our most wonderful members since 2011 and will be so missed.  On behalf of the Broadview Danforth BIA we send Dave and his family all of our thoughts at this time; and, we wish the amazing Danforth staff team the very best as they move on to other positions.

Thanks,
Susan
